Quwetwo and Renwick stun Zaynar in Morebattle Hurdle

Quwetwo (12-1) and Wilson Renwick stunned the Nicky Henderson-trained 1-14 fav Zaynar in a dramatic Victor Chandler-sponsored Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso on Thursday 18 February.

Renwick gave the Howard Johnson-trained and Graham Wylie-owned Quwetwo a cracking front-running ride to beat Barry Geraghty’s mount by one length in a rousing finish to the £16,000 showpiece.

Hawick-born Renwick (28), returning to a tremendous reception, said of Quwetwo:

“He’s a lovely horse, tough and genuine. He’ll be an exciting prospect over fences.”

James Ewart, Lucinda Russell, Willie Amos, Susan Bradburne, Nick Alexander and Lucy Normile sealed a six-timer for Scots trainers in front of a 2000 crowd at Kelso.

Alexander’s 19-year-old daughter Lucy starred on 40-1 shot Seeking Power for the Fife family in the Kelso Members’ Handicap Chase to clinch her first winner under rules.

Haddington teenager Alex Voy deserves great credit for giving the Normile-trained Portway Girl (14-1) an inspired front-running ride to lift the DBS/EBF-sponsored mares’ bumper.

Val Jackson and 4-5 fav Robbers Glen won Kelso’s first hunter chase of 2010 in dramatic style, beating Natiain by a distance.
