Johnson and O'Regan seal 54-1 Brace at Kelso
Howard Johnson and Denis O’Regan, northern jump racing’s all-conquering partnership, sealed a 54-1 brace at Kelso’s Countryside Raceday on Friday 20 November.
Bay Cherry (9-1) lifted the £10,000 Ashleybank Investments-sponsored Reg and Betty Tweedie Novices’ Handicap Chase in impressive fashion for Graham and Andrea Wylie, beating the Jean McGregor-trained Waterski by 6 lengths.
Percussionist (9-2) rolled back the years to clinch the Johnson-O’Regan double in the Scotdisc Handicap Hurdle, the eight-year-old staying on gamely in the Crook-based trainer’s red and light blue silks.
Garleton (100-30 fav) won the Lloyd New Holland Handicap Chase for Sue Smith, Tjade Collier and Berwick owner John Stephenson after attracting a bet of £7000-£2000.
“It’s been a great year and that’s my eighth winner with Sue and Harvey since March,”
said the delighted former leader of Berwick Council.
Cotswolds raider Little Josh (2-5 fav) romped to a 9 length victory for Nigel Twiston-Davies and Paddy Brennan in the Biotal Beginners’ Chase.
Bishops Heir (7-2) looked a smart recruit to hurdling for James Ewart’s Langholm yard and Donald McCain’s Wymott (1-2 fav) impressed in the maiden hurdle.
Ferdy Murphy’s King of Confusion (100-30) bolted up by 16 lengths under Graham Lee to clinch his third Kelso hurdles success in front of a 2300 crowd.
