Monteith, Greens and Murphy Celebrate Kelso double
Peter Monteith’s veteran chaser Snowy (100-30 fav) and bumper winner Corky Dancer (9-1) sealed a memorable 42-1 double for Ray & Anita Green and son-in-law Timmy Murphy in front of a 5000 crowd at Kelso on Sunday 4 October.
Snowy rallied bravely to gain his fourth Kelso triumph in the Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course Handicap Chase and Corky Dancer, also bred by the Greens, made a winning debut in the second division of the bumper.
“It’s been a fantastic afternoon. Timmy was brilliant on Snowy and the crowd gave them a great reception and we’re thrilled with Corky Dancer’s debut victory,” said an ecstatic Ray Green.
George Charlton’s Heez A Steel (7-4) attracted two £2000 bets in winning the £8000 Support Childline Intermediate Hurdle, sponsored by Ray & Anita Green, staying on strongly to beat Ulster raider Now This Is It (13-8fav) by 4 lengths.
Ryan Mania enjoyed a winning start to the glorious autumnal afternoon on the Dianne Sayer-trained Sea Cove at odds of 11-2 and Silver Steel (5-2 fav) lifted the SIS Novices’ Handicap Chase.
Hello Nod (11-2) won the Sunday Mail Handicap Hurdle for Julie Camacho’s Malton yard under promising conditional James Halliday.
Hawick’s Jamie Richardson (27) won the Border Principals’ Race over 5 furlongs on Can’t Buy Me Love with She Loves You second for Musselburgh’s Ali Barclay and Help third under Chris Mackenzie from Galashiels.
Amy Milburn (14) won the 5 furlong pony race on Jazz in great style by 11 lengths and Thomas Greenwood (15) won the 6 furlong event on Springs.
